When students go out into the real world to work, do they actually learn anything about that when they' re in school? do they use anything that they learnt in school?

a very good question KP
really good question... MAny times we doo feel wht have been taught in schools.. are actully wrth it.. or rather those preachings or studies or taughts are used in real life ... i myslef feel wht have a i learnt in my school days which I can apply in my real life.. whr i wrk.. and i find absolutely nothing... But tht doesnt means.. School going is not imp.. in place of thinking about those learning its actually process of making a mature adult... a person who has thinking power.. a person who can decide and make out between wrong and good... Well the bookish knowledge i do feel is some wht not req. but schools are more thn the bookish knowledge,.... if u r going to school just for the bookish knowledge .. well u shld not go.. its more thn tht... |

1st of all... nice to see KP rocking again...
as Kussy said.. a very nice Q... but its very easy to answer as well.. as far as i m concern, i will say NO... school teaches us how to be a honest and nice human being..how to be a true human.. todays world is not like you can be very sidha sada type of person... u need to be smart enough to handle different situation... being sida sada.. u can not expect to solve every problem... if u live in todays word.... do exactly opposite what u learn in the school... |

what school do you go to (did).
Now in public school, you learn fundamentals for everday life when you grow up, who doesn't use math? and without english / first language nobody would ever be able to speak properly. In high school, you lean how to perform in any job you apply to, without the basic skills to do the job properly you're not gonna get hired. Now this is there you go your separate ways, College and University. Now college is much more hands on work and University is more textbook and theoretical learning. Now there are many contraversies about going to university or college because people say that employee's only like to hire people with university degrees and such.... |

I really like dat point..i myself am really confused between College and Uni..College saves ur money and is hand on..UNI is Xpensive and really lotta stuff to cram ...but hmm u get diploma in college and degree in uni...thats what i know so far..(grade 10's are supposed to be dumb aren't they?) ...degree has more value to it ...hmm but a person came to our school and talked about this new thing where u can do both college and uni at same time...its like 1 year college next in uni and back and forth..and degree u get tops any of college or Uni ...coz u have been exposed to both kinda study styles and u r expected to fit into system requiring hands on and text book knowledge at same time... By the way i go to Catholic School...yea i know they are d best |

School standards are the basics building block of you fine and excellent career.
let me explain. In Schooling you come across lot of subject like science ,social , Maths and Biology etc.., which ever is the interesting subject for you , you select that for your intermediate(10+2), here you may take courses like MPC (Maths,Physics,Chemistry} or BiPC (Biology,Physics,Chemistry), this intermediate courses plays important role in for your career, for example computer student need strong maths background. For under graduation you pick the courses you like . for example Computer Science. After under graduation you will have chance to do job or if you want to gain in depth study you can further go up to Master and PhD. After reading the whole paragraph i don't know ,you will get my point are not. Ultimately your schooling education is building you career basing on your interest. You cant thing of becoming a Engineer unit unless you have passion in it otherwise it is very hard to get through the exams and it will be big headache for you. |

About last part of your reply i might not agree with it ..coz in universities tooo many students end up not liking what they thought they wanted to do(highschool experience)....i really like co-op courses..yes they keep you away from school for a while but they kinda act like test driving your career...you can go further in dat career if u like your co-op xperience ..if u dunt ..u still have lotta opportunities as u r still in high school..my sister always thought she wanted to do something related to medical..she was getting great marks but during co-op she figured out dat she doesnt really like the environment of hospitals and stuff...i dunno why..but bleh she didnt like it..she switched to chemical Engineering and she loves it. Most of the people dream to become something (doctor, lawyer or engineer) basing on the dignity and respect it has in the society , This kind of ambition to a goal doesn't works. Most of my school friends wanted to become a doctor but few got success, most of them changed there stream in under gradation to pharmacy or something other. May this might be the case. Or May be your sister is interested in chemistry(biology and chemistry looks same in school standards and in 10+2 too.) and she might thought it may lead to medical but suitable job for her is chemical engineering. |

My opinion is that a human being develops his value system till the age of 13. Whatever he learns after that, just goes to fit according to the value system (character) that he has developed during these formative years. So, schools, whatever quality, they might be, play a very significant role in a person's life. As far as the academic contents are concerned, I think, the education in school goes along farther than the education in the college/Univeersity.
P.S. Nice topic KP...kudos |
