What motivates people to convert to other religion? Do they identify themselves with the new belief system or the older one? Is money a strong motivational factor for religious conversion? When people talk of being committed to one's partner, how can the break their commitment to GOD?

depends on individual choice, there's no 1 fixed reason
i don't see anything wrong with it though u r a mature individual, choose for urself what happens is u have to follow the religion of ur parents when u r born u don't have a choice in choosing their religion, dya? so u follow what they say however as u grow & mature, if u think u identify more with some other religion, then go for it of course, i'm telling u my views on it ppl do it for various reasons...marriage, the person they love, money, peer pressure, many reasons to each his own but i just tried pointing out that if they make the decisions as in the case i mentioned above, i see nothing wrong with it |

Did the gurus/gods dat we follow want this? No!!I don't really identify myself on basis of religion..i been to churches and gurudwaras..*too scared to enter a mosque My believe is jump onto the bandwagon of fun ...celebrate vaisakhi with sikhs and x-mas with Christians...My mom and dad are sikhs and we go to gurudwara at times...I dunt money has anything to do with religious conversion ... Enjoy your life..don't let religion come in ...bcoz dats not what religions are meant for..religious places were supposed to be soothing places where u can find dat eternal "piece ...crap ..just hate all topics about religion

Good views King. But see, KP has kindly admitted that she doesnt know what motivated her to convert. In the same breath she tells us that she doesn't mind going to Gurudwaras though she is no more a Sikh. Nice enlightening views.
Religions might have lost their meaning somewhere down the line. Could there be a global religion where a person could follow different faiths at different times. BEcause every religion has some(most) good in it. Still leaves me unanswered if a person starts disliking his/her earlier gods. Thnx King, Thnx KP. btw, I simply love the song "Losing my religion" by R.E.M. tho that has nothing to do with this topic |

oh yeah, i love the song too though of couse, it has nothing to do with the topic
as for global religions, don't think anything will ever fit that bill & as for religion losing it's meaning, i agree with u there my thinking is that ultimately all religions r good, & their teachings tell of peace & harmony & forgiveness & what not however, still we twist things up & fight, even in the name oif religion so better stay away from it & adopt whatever u like/want & be a good human being that's a much more important thing, 'humanity' being ur global religion there |

Thnx King, Thnx KP. btw, I simply love the song "Losing my religion" by R.E.M. tho that has nothing to do with this topic I m gradually becoming more of an atheist ...with religions loosing the soul meanings. Its more of becoming a political game these days...Punjab Situation is 80's which wiped out a complete generation..All religions have similar motives and most of them are against violence..but the followers have twisted the religions and molded them into things that satisfy their greeds. My conversion was a result of much of the influence of some missionary friends that used to come over on weekends. We used to enjoy a lot and gradually all of us got baptized..my parents never had any problems with it. I go to Gurudwaras with my parents sometimes *not for religious reasons..just for the sake of being with my parents and suffice them*....my last visit to a sacred place was like 4 months ago..i am such too tired of people bashing each other for minor religious causes. Islam is going through a tough phase right now and so is Sikhism. . . . I always thought of having one Global religion ..but i dunt think that would ever happen ... As far as disliking the gods..I never disliked any gods..i just hate those extremist followers...no matter what religion they belong too...* I know hate is a strong word* This post has been edited by Küðï Þµñjðßåñ: Jun 8 2007, 03:01 AM |

Sad reality - Poor people in India convert to Christianity for money and for getting the benefits of reservation system.
There are people in the world who change their religion out of belief. Take the example of AR Rahman. there are people who have to convert - Example of Yousuf Youhana who is Mohd. Yousuf now. Religion should be a personal choice but due to the socio-economic conditions in country like India lots of people do it to get some financial benefit. Prime example - thousands of dalits converting to Christianity. Personally I feel religion is bull crap. I prefer to have one religion / caste / creed - Humanity. |

Why does everybody want to blame the religion? Religion is not crap. It is the means of being spiritual in the materialistic world. It gives us solace in times of crisis or grief. It helps us in realizing our identity other than the name that our parents have given to us. It is the means of connecting ourselves to our creator. Being an athiest aint an easy job. Who would u turn to in trying moments of your life? Think about it. Religion is not bad, its the means that can be questionable, not the end. The religious leaders try to twist religious dictats to suit their petty goals. I love a music video by Genesis (Phil Collins) .... I dont remeber the name of the song but...I think it says Jesus loves me or something like that.

It is only the way it it twisted by the religious leaders which makes it bad. And what I said above was my personal opinion. And if someone is religious int he traditional sense, they are welcome to do so. I have issue only with ppl who make it the all important thing in the world. |
