Should everyone be forced to stay at school until they are 18? (All over the world.)

In many countries, school attendance is mandatory for all children up to a specific age. Children often then have the choice of staying on at school for further education and possible preparation for university or college entrance, or leaving to pursue a job or professional training. In India this is 14 years of age: in the UK and many other countries it is 16. School leaving ages are often linked to when young people are seen to become adults in their society, because the state would rather not compel adults to do what they do not want to do. However, there is often some grey area between when children are granted some privileges (for example the right to smoke, have sex or learn to drive) but not all rights (i.e. the right to vote). In most countries young people can choose to leave school at least two years before they are considered mature enough to vote. Economists are also divided over the effect of young workers in the workforce as opposed to the benefits of increased skills levels among the workforce. The debate also depends on a clear understanding as to what school-based education includes: is it purely academic or can schools include vocationally based courses like plumbing or hotel management.

I think its a good idea to keep them focused on studying, it enables a better future and for them to make something of themselves, i have friends with a uni degree and those who do not have one, their jobs are so different, all the hard work is dun thru studying, that secures a really successful and relaxing future, rather than gettin a crappy job in factory and wrking ur butt off, and still at end of it u have no money to spare. It s a true fact and i seen it happen so many tyms where I live. And neways this way ppl stay out of trouble and theres less unemplyment and more skills for work. And keeping children in school till that age is and excellent idea btw tongue.gif i wud prefer they went school rather than leaving and doin nothing after 16.

I think students must be bound to attend school or collage up to the age level considered by Govt. of that country. As dulhan said it will help them focus on there studies and they may get good grades which can help them in future. More over this will make them regular and punctual.

There should definitely be a law in each country that forces all the children to attend school till they reach a particular age.
Its for the betterment of the kid to be educated and civilized. smile.gif

I agree, but there is no point in forcing those over 16 to stay in education, they are old enough to choose
