What Is Your Problem Mr.Singh?
Union HRD minister Arjun Singh's proposal to extend OBC quotas to central universities and other elite higher education institutions comes as a rude shock to the citizens of the country. As if the existing quota of 22.5% were not enough, the HRD ministry has taken the nasty step towards dividing the people of our country by proposing to extend this quota to nearly 50%. The United Progressive Alliance(UPA) should rename themselves the "United Destructive Alliance(UDA)" instead. Another thing I would like to know about is the timing of this move. It is quite clear that the government is trying to gather votes for the upcoming Assembly elections in five states. This is because the government and the Congress look set to stand by Arjun Singh despite the Election Commission's demand for an explanation from him for announcing his plans with five states poll-bound. I am a General category student and am deeply troubled about my future, just like other students who are devastated by this proposal of implementation of the extension of OBC quotas. As a student,as a citizen of this country, I have every right to question this proposal. With nearly 50% of seats being reserved for OBC, entrance examinations will become tougher and nighDDFarish for the General category students, contrary to what the examinations would become for the backward classes, i.e, a sort of cakewalk. This proposal would certainly be cosequential if implemented, as it would lead to a negative outcome. The output yielded by the colleges would have nearly 50% of the backward class students. Today, these classes in IITs and many other central universities, lack self-esteem and confidence due to peer pressure, and due to their poor ranks in the entrance exams.Rather than providing these students with financial assists, the government is playing the dirtiest possible game by reserving half the number of seats for them. The output would obviously be poor as a result of which, the growth of the nation will be hindered. A lot has been discussed about the "Brain Drain",i.e people emigrating to other countries for their education, thereby sapping the country of its potential. If Mr.Singh's proposal is implemented, people would have no choice but to emigrate to other countries for their futures' sake, because of their own country's admision system getting tougher and unreasonable. The above mentioned issues should raise alarm bells within the government-even though I am quite apprehensive about that. You, Mr.Singh may be elitist and resourceful enough to send your children abroad for higher education and avail yourself of medical treaDDFent abroad at the tax payers' cost. What about mortals like US?? If you too OPPOSE the 50% Reservation, Please Sign your name below in a new post and add your comments if you want to. |
