![]() Think of the five most successful people you know. Now think of the five happiest. How many made both lists? Most people think of success in terms of possessions and achievements, while happiness is a state of mind. It’s common to think success will bring happiness, but that’s often not the case. Think about what the people on your happy list have in common. I’ll bet they have better-than- average relationships, especially with their spouses and children. Of course, other factors besides good relationships also tend to produce happiness -- like good health, enjoying one’s work, and having fun. And people driven by spiritual and ethical values usually are more content than those who measure success in terms of prosperity, pleasure, and peer approval. Still, if I had to choose the one thing most essential to happiness, it would be good relationships. Think about it. The happiness quotient of people who live high-flying lives of the rich and famous or the swinging lives of the young and beautiful is surprisingly low. Yes, these people experience plenty of moments of soaring satisfaction, but they become harder to duplicate and sustain. Often such people are left with an "Is that all there is?" feeling that can lead to depression and boredom. No matter how rich, sexy, or famous one is, happiness is almost impossible for people who have hurtful and unsatisfying relationships. Yet people surrounded by the affection, love, and respect of others can find their way to happiness in spite of economic hardship, hard work, and even ill health. That’s good news. We can’t all be rich, famous, or beautiful, but we can all find people worthy of our love. ![]() |

Good one KP. There is a simple formula to be happy. Whenever you ask somebody how they will be happy or when they were happy, they co-relate happiness to some incident of future or past. But we all live in present and this very moment when I am typing this; is the moment I am living in. I dont need anything to be happy NOW. Gone. This moment is gone never to come again in my life. Now I should keep myself happy NOW. Moment gone. See? It dont take anything to be happy right NOW, right at this moment. Just live in THIS moment and be HAPPY
P.S. It also means forgetting any past sad events about having wasted flowers on somebody. This post has been edited by tigerclassic: Nov 5 2007, 12:19 PM |

I'll add a small thought here....
"Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect. It means that you've decided to look beyond the imperfections of life." |

main abhi aapko gaali dunga toh kya aap usse past samjah ke bhool jaoge. nice explanation...very impressive. Thanx SQ, you asked if you could give me a gali and gave me a rep! If this is ur definition, I would like to get galis from u everyday! Here's a small story about how to be happy even when somebody gives you a gali: Once Buddha was sitting under a tree, meditating. His face was sporting a smile as usual. A passerby who was bugged by Budddha's smug behaviour, decided to extract some excitement from Buddha. So he started abusing Buddha for doing nothing the whole day and sitting under the tree, preaching wrong things to people. Buddha said nothing, just smiled at the man. Incensed over this, the man started using some real bad abuses. Indifferent to his cussing, Buddha kept on smiling. failing to invoke any respose from Buddha, the man soon got tired and left. Another person who witnessed the whole incident asked Buddha, how he could keep his cool and smile all the while the man used such derogatory words for him. Buddha asked him if he had a pen. The man promptly dished out a pen from his pocket. Buddha said, If you offer me your pen and I refuse to take it, who will the pen remain with. The man replied, "ofcourse with me, who else?" Buddha explianed, "Similarly the other man was trying to give me his abuses, and I refused to accept them. So all the abuses bounced back to him. I couldn't help smiling at the gross words he was using for himself" Moral of the story: You can give me galis everyday and I shall accept them if they are in the form of reps. |
